I come from a small district in Karnataka called Coorg.My place is very famous for Coffee, Cardamom, Pepper, Spices and Honey. It is also a Hillstation and a tourist spot in Karnataka. Almost everyone who came to Coorg never went back without purchasing some/all of these condiments. We get good quality honey than elsewhere at a reasonable price. Honey has a lot of healthy benefits. Here are some that come to mind.
Honey contains Carbohydrates, minerals, water, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin A, B6 and B12, pottassium and sodium and sugar in different forms. It is easily digested and readily absorbed in the blood stream and hence it is used for digestive disorders. Its application on skin either on its own or in combination with other substances is very effective. When applied on burns, it lessens the burning sensation and heals the skin faster. It helps to reduce weight when combined with warm water and lemon juice. Usually children do not like the taste of tablets, so an easy way of giving them is by mixing the powder of tablets with honey, surely they will have it without any hesitation.
My mom used to serve us honey for dosas, appas and rice balls instead of Chutneys and Sambar so that we consume atleast one spoon of honey each day. By doing this she used to reduce the intake of coconut thereby reducing the intake of cholestrol too. Do try this as a variation instead of having the same chutneys for all dosas at all times...
